I’ve been binge-watching stuff by Dylan Wiliam over the last few days. He seems to talk a lot of sense and is easy to listen to. He makes the point that there are four broad sets of reasons as to why we educate people:<ol><li>As preparation for life - to allow them to find their way in the world</li><li>To pass on culture - what Matthew Arnold calls: ‘… the best that has been known and said in the world, and thus with the history of the human spirit.’</li><li>To prepare for democratic citizenship</li><li>To prepare for the world of work</li></ol>CurriculumWhat educational purposesWhat experiences are neededHow should these be organisedAssessmentThe curriculum is a selection for culture
